Become a Community Advocate with the Live Music Project

Overview

The Live Music Project (LMP) is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Community Advocate. As a Community Advocate, you will play a vital role in promoting and supporting your local classical music scene, fostering community engagement, and helping to enhance the visibility of the LMP Concert Calendar.

Reports to: Live Music Project Executive Director

Hours: Negotiable

Compensation: This is a volunteer position

As a leader for the Community Advocate Program, you will assist the Executive Director with making a tangible impact on your local classical music community. Work schedule will be a mixture of set and variable working hours determined by the Community Advocate. LMP is a fully remote working environment. All contractors, interns, and volunteers must have reliable access to a computer and internet and feel comfortable learning new software and tools to be effective in this position.

 

Community Advocate duties with the Live Music Project:

 

  • Submitting Events: The Community Advocate will be responsible for regularly submitting events to the LMP Concert Calendar, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available for music enthusiasts and community members.
  • Lead a local Calendar Squad meet-up (virtual or in-person depending on the Community Advocate’s preference.) Can be once or twice a month depending on the Community Advocate’s schedule.
  • Volunteer Recruitment: Actively recruiting volunteers for the local Calendar Squad will be a significant responsibility. You will engage with potential volunteers, provide them with information about the LMP, and help them understand the role and its impact on the community.
  • [Optional] Blog Posts: Compose short, engaging blog posts about the local classical music scene. These posts will aim to highlight upcoming performances, review noteworthy concerts, share insights into the music community, and generate interest among readers.
  • [Optional] New Music Happy Hour Events: Hosting semi-regular New Music Happy Hour events will be a unique and exciting aspect of this position. These events will serve as opportunities for local musicians, composers, and enthusiasts to gather, discuss contemporary classical music, and foster connections within the community.
  • Other Duties: The Community Advocate will work closely with the LMP Executive Director to determine whether they would like to take on any additional responsibilities based on their interests and the evolving needs of the program and the community. This may include tasks such as social media engagement, outreach initiatives, attending local music events, or collaborating with other organizations.

    Qualifications & Skills:

  • A passion for and commitment to connecting people with live classical and contemporary music experiences in a way that strengthens community, celebrates listener agency, and amplifies local arts resources.
  • A deep interest in making classical music a more equitable and just field for all.
  • Excellent proofreading, attention to detail, and curiosity and patience when searching for information.
  • Access to a reliable computer and internet.
  • An ability to learn and efficiently use Mailchimp, Trello, G-Suite applications, Slack, IMSLP, social media platforms (specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), Canva, style guides, and a lot of Google.
  • Excellent & friendly written communication.
  • Ability to work independently and ask for guidance when needed.
  • Interest in communications/marketing and/or non-profit administration.
