Sergei Rachmaninoff's sublime All-Night Vigil, Op. 37 is beloved the world over for its richly stunning a cappella choral textures and transcendent beauty. Often recognized as one of Rachmaninoff’s finest achievements, this mammoth 1915 work was composed with inspired efficiency (in less than two weeks!) and its fifteen movements set texts from the traditional Russian Orthodox vigil ceremony. On a quiet Sunday evening in November, hear The Emmanuel Choir perform Rachmaninoff's choral masterpiece amidst the shimmering glow of candlelight, within the tranquility of Emmanuel's historic nave.
