Written collaboratively by composer Jake Heggie, called "arguably the world's most popular 21st-century opera and art song composer" (The Wall Street Journal); Booker Prize–winning author Margaret Atwood (The Handmaid's Tale); and JUNO Award–winning baritone Joshua Hopkins, Songs for Murdered Sisters is an arresting song cycle and urgent plea inspired by Hopkins's own devastating loss. Mahler's Ninth Symphony, the last the composer completed, is a transcendent piece also born in trying circumstances—but not without hope.
