In this recital of major keyboard works by Händel and Bach, Italian harpsichordist Francesco Corti adds a joyful spontaneity to virtuosity and flair. His Händel performances channel attributes said by a contemporary to describe the composer's own playing: "brilliancy, fullness, force and energy." Gramophone declares "He can make the harpsichord sing," a useful ability for transcriptions by William Babell that reflect the masterly vocal writing in Händel's operas and oratorios. Noted also for his Bach interpretations, Corti has created a video series offering elegant commentaries on the French Suites and will perform two of the six magisterial suites on this program.
Pre-concert Lecture: Christoph Wolff, Adams University Professor, Emeritus, Harvard University. 12:30pm, Whittall Pavilion.
