Leif Ove Andsnes's recitals are known for exceptionally thoughtful programming supported by unusually insightful readings. His 2023 recital included the Carnegie Hall premiere of Dvořák's Poetic Tone Pictures, lauded as an "impressive milestone," played with "characteristic wisdom ... a standard-setting account" (The New York Times). He now presents another Carnegie Hall premiere: Norwegian composer Gveirr Tveitt's Piano Sonata No. 29—an ambitious work infused with Norwegian folk melodies—paired with Grieg's sole Piano Sonata. Following intermission, Andsnes shifts focus to Chopin's Twenty-Four Preludes, guiding listeners through every major and minor key across a series of miniature musical gems.
