Claude Debussy — Images pour piano Book 2, CD 120, L.111
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky — Grand Piano Sonata in G major, Op. 37
Yefim Bronfman's career at Carnegie Hall has been one of constant amazement, beginning with his debut in September 1976—a month that saw him in a chamber performance with Isaac Stern and an orchestral performance with Leonard Bernstein. Nearly 50 years later, Bronfman's recitals continue to stand out among his many performance highlights. In this concert he features a spritely Mozart piano sonata, followed by three of Debussy's harmonically rich and exquisitely spacious Images. Also included is Tchaikovsky's rarely heard Piano Sonata in G major. "In Bronfman's superhuman hands, its symphonic scale and orchestral textures [are] highlighted with virtuosic flair," said The New York Times, following his last performance of the demanding piece at the Hall in 2010.
