The nature of any war, especially revolution, is that people who were part of society or in power are thrust into danger. The reverse is also true. People who at one time were not exalted are suddenly thrust into positions of prominence. The music of this program explores both sides of composers during the French Revolution (1789–1799) to the downfall of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo (1815). Following Waterloo, composers who were brought into prominence experienced their political downfall, and exiles were able to return home. This program follows the migration, exaltation and degradation of five French composers leading up to and following the French Revolution.
