Atlanta's only contemporary music festival, SoundNOW, celebrates their 8th year of proudly presenting amazing New Music with performances from some of the city's best and brightest contemporary musicians. Spanning seven nights, the festival will feature twelve ensembles/acts with a wide variety of music.

Tonight's concert features Chamber Cartel (Amy Wright, Flute; Jennifer Betzer, Harp; Laura Gordy, Piano; and Caleb Herron, Percussion) and a program by Benjamin Shirley (Majid Araim, guitar; Chris Childs, percussion; David Gray, guitar; John Gregg, percussion; Monique Osorio, guitar; Benjamin Shirley, guitar; Al-Yasha Williams, guitar; Majid Araim, mandolin; Julian Scott Bryan, percussion; Chip Epsten, violin; Gabe Monticello, bass; Benjamin Shirley, cello; and Paul Stephens, vibraphone).

About Laura Gordy, piano

Laura Gordy is an American pianist. She graduated from Shepherd School of Music, Rice University (USA) in 1979 and since then she continues to practice as an instrumentalist and also teach.

About Caleb Herron, percussion

Caleb Herron is an energetic performer of the new and unheard. He was born with an ear for unique sounds and feeds this intrinsic sense through his passion for contemporary music.

From this passion, Caleb has commissioned more than twenty new solos from contemporary composers. Caleb is a founding member and Artistic Director of Chamber Cartel, a contemporary music group based in Atlanta. He has been fortunate enough to study under the direction of Dr. Stuart Gerber at Georgia State University and Dr. Morris Palter at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Caleb teaches percussion at Georgia State University, Perimeter College.

About Majid Araim, guitar & mandolin

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, curator, and a fixture of the Atlanta improvisation and new music communities. Majid's prolific work as a composer focuses on resonance and dynamics, experimental approaches, and is oriented towards the natural world and fantasy realms. In addition to his solo work he is also a founding member of the jazz trio, BASrelief and improv duo, Whispers of Night.
