University of Puget Sound Jacobsen Series: A Cello Celebration featuring Guest Artist David Geber

The School of Music is pleased to welcome distinguished guest artist David Geber for "A Cello Celebration." Geber will be joined by Alistair MacRae, Cordelia Wikarski-Miedel Artist in Residence at the University of Puget Sound, cellist of the Puget Sound Piano Trio, principal cello of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, and acting principle cello of Symphony Tacoma.
All concerts in Schneebeck Concert Hall at 7:30pm unless noted otherwise. Meet and greet the artists following each performance at a reception hosted by the Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) international music organization.

Named in honor of Leonard Jacobsen, former chair of the piano department at Puget Sound, the Jacobsen Professional Artist Series was established in 1984 and features School of Music faculty and their guests. Ticket sales support the Jacobsen Series Scholarship Fund, which awards annual music scholarships to an outstanding member of Sigma Alpha Iota, international music fraternity.

About David Geber, cello
Cellist David Geber had his early musical training in Los Angeles, where he was raised in a family of professional cellists. He holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Juilliard School. Geber has been recipient of numerous cello and chamber music awards, including the Walter W. Naumburg Award and the Coleman Chamber Music Prize. He has appeared as soloist at Tanglewood Music Center and Aspen Music Festival, as well as with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Montreal Symphony. A strong supporter of new music, he has premiered numerous works for cello as well as for varied chamber combinations. As founding cellist of the American String Quartet, he concertized and recorded internationally with that ensemble for nearly thirty years, having given concerts in all 50 of the United States and playing up to 100 annual engagements.
David is director of chamber music at Manhattan School of Music in New York City and is artist/faculty at Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Cellist Alistair MacRae has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral principal throughout North America and in Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East. His playing has been praised for its "rich sound and lyrical phrasing" (Palm Beach Daily News) and his performances have been featured in radio broadcasts across the United States on WQXR, WWFM, WDAV, WCQS, KING FM, and Vermont Public Radio.
MacRae is the Cordelia Wikarski-Miedel Artist in Residence, cello and chamber music at the University of Puget Sound.
