Noted for her evocative vocals, exquisite Palestinian singer Nibal Malshi returns to Roulette for a captivating program of Middle Eastern songs. Her program features a variety of classics from the 1920s, modern Arab music, a tribute to Umm Kulthum on the 50th anniversary of her passing, and an Egyptian highlight. She will be accompanied by Ayman Asfour (violin), Gabriel Lavin (oud – lute), John Murchison (qanun – zither), Bashar Farran (bass), and Gilbert Mansour (percussion).
About Nibal Malshi, voice
Palestinian vocalist Nibal Malshi graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. She has performed with such virtuoso musicians as Simon Shaheen, Firas Zreik, and the National Arab Orchestra under the direction of Michael Ibrahim.

Ayman Asfour is a violinist and composer born in Alexandria in 1979. He graduated from the Faculty of Specific Education at Alexandria University, specializing in the violin. He then worked as a violin teacher at the same university for four years, before joining the music faculty at Helwan University for a postgraduate degree in 2001. He has collaborated with many musicians, composers and singers in Egypt, the Arab world and from around the world, such as Hazem Shaheen, Ali Eissa, Ghalia ben Ali, Maurice Louca, Natiq Aziz, Huda Asfour, and Roman Bunka. In 2012, he founded the Oufuqy Music Festival, which was held for six years in Alexandria.

John Murchison is a Brooklyn-based bassist and multi-instrumentalist. He is known for his active role in several musical circles, performing primarily in pop and musical theater, jazz and avant-garde, and traditional musics from the Middle East and Africa.
