Music in the Museum: Quintet No. 2 for Piano & Strings by Hwaen Ch'uqi
$20 ($14 museum member)
- Hwaen Ch'uqi, piano
- Pamela Liu, violin
- Jennifer Glenn Shoval, viola
- Erika Pierson, cello
- Anna Doak, double bass
Internationally recognized composer Hwaen Ch'uqi came to live in the United States as a child from his native Peru. While embracing his love for America he has retained a strong connection to his Inca roots. Hwaen addresses reconciling these two loves in this new major composition. Based on vibrant dreams the piece combines a classical romantic style with motifs from traditional Inca music. The quintet surges with passion, beauty, tragic memories and fanciful delight—dramatic and cinematic in scope.
Today Hwaen is based in Rochester, New York, and over the past three years we are distinctly honored that Hwaen has developed a relationship with Cascadia Art Museum. He's established a following among an outstanding group of Seattle classical musicians who will join him for this concert. You may remember him from previous concerts at the museum, including a remarkable world premiere in 2023.
