Conceived and performed by Wick Simmons, Exquisite Drones is a work for cello and electronics with music composed by inti figgis-vizueta, Conrad Tao, and Jack McGuire, and with projections designed by Laurie Olinder. Exquisite Drones takes its inspiration from the drawing game "Exquisite Corpse", which was first played by surrealist artists to create bizarre and intuitive drawings. The collaborators here juxtapose drone compositions that were written in isolation by the three composers, each expressing their personal relationships to long-held tones with humming, growling, and de-contextualized words. Projections designed by award-winning multimedia designer Laurie Olinder re-interpret the drone score and Wick's cello lines to add a stunning visual component to the collaboration.
