Spite House is a DIY venue in a very small live/work studio captured by an arm of Capitol Hill's runaway gentrification. It is also a room with a great piano! A living and growing part of Seattle's music community meets here to feature a musician or ensemble for a semi-public audience of peers, guests, friends, family, and friendly neighbors. Four resident curators, one for each Tuesday of the month, plays or invites others to play our featured set. Dick Valentine, Carol J Levin, Solvej Amelia Noa, and Spite house producer Stephen Fandrich with duo partner Bill Monteleone are the current group who sets it all in motion. Snacks and drinks are free...hope to see you one of these Tuesdays!

Opening Set: The Spite House Band opens the evening at 8:30pm Pacific sharp every Tuesday night. This group features Spite House producers Stephen Fandrich (piano) and Billy Monteleone (reeds). Improvisational styles and original compositions.

Featured Set Curators

1st Tuesday: Dick Valentine is a representative of the flurry of jazz musicians who, after Coltrane, wondered "what do we do now?" He brings a generation of composers and improvisors who were emerging and became a part of the improvisation momentum of the middle to late Twentieth Century and onward...

2nd Tuesday: Carol J Levin is a harpist with ties to Seattle's jazz community and an ever-widening circle of experimenting and improvising musicians. She has collaborated with small and large ensembles, and enjoys exploring ways to make the world's most angelic instrument a bad axe, too.

3rd Tuesday Solvej Amelia Noa, dancer, spoken word artist, musician, functions from a deep commitment to connecting herself, and other humans, to the hearts of one another by way of the ceaselessly positive and transcendental genres of music and movement.

4th Tuesday: Stephen Fandrich pianist, composer, and producer of Spite House, presents an exploration of new solo piano compositions among piano improvisations and translations of icons such as Phil Ochs, Leonard Cohen, and Alexander Scriabin.

Third Set: Concert of spontaneous improvisations, Open to improvisors. Spite House producers Bill Monteleone and Stephen Fandrich curate the third set, a concert of spontaneous compositions, by encouraging duos or small ensembles to form out of the community of improvisors who are always present. Bring your instrument! Bring your voice!

Every Tuesday. Doors open at 8pm. $20* suggested donation (*be generous if you can:) It's quite a party so expect free food and drinks! Your contributions, too. We are located on Seattle's Capitol Hill: on 14th Avenue, between Pike and Pine behind the brown fence. House #1513

Spite House concerts are also livestreamed via the Spite House Facebook page. Broadcasts typically begin at 8:30pm Pacific, but may vary from week to week. Check the Spite House Facebook page for updates on the next stream, and to view current and past streams.
