At the center of ACMF is the spirit of community and togetherness shared by our audiences and the musicians themselves. Our season-ending concert draws on that sense of collective in presenting a program of works for large ensembles that present chamber music in a symphonic scale.

The first half of the program pushes the woodwinds to the fore in works by Heitor Villa-Lobos and Robert Schumann. The Ciranda da sete notas, by the prolific Brazilian, presents the bassoon as a longing, expressive soloist alongside a string quintet that bubbles with excitement. Schumann’s heartfelt Adagio and Allegro, originally for French horn and piano, is made made even more tender and rapturous with the addition of strings.

The concert closes with an arrangement of Johannes Brahms' Serenade No. 2 in A major, ending our season with a near-orchestral bang that erupts with the German composer's playful rhythms, gorgeous melodies, and roaring crescendos.
