Composer, organist, and pianist César-Auguste Jean-Guillaume Hubert Franck (1822-1890) is one of the giants of the Romantic era. The child-prodigy entered the Liège Conservatory at age 8 and gave his first concert at 12 – in front of the king of Belgium! Later he was appointed professor at the Paris Conservatory and organist at the Basilique St. Clotilde, where he was famous for his stunning improvisations. Franck’s music is full of sweeping melodies, dramatic outbursts, and romantic longing – join us in a celebration of the 200th anniversary of this magician of sound!
