Rita UedaBirds Calling… from the Canada in You (for shō, suona/sheng, & orchestra; world premiere)
Aharon HarlapOut of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord (for soprano & orchestra; North American premiere)

Come celebrate excellence at the biennial Azrieli Music Prizes (AMP) Gala Concert at Maison symphonique de Montréal featuring the premiere of prize-winning works by the three 2022 AMP Laureates: Aharon Harlap, Iman Habibi, and Rita Ueda. Maestro Alexandre Bloch leads Orchestre Métropolitain with soloists Sharon Azrieli, Sepideh Raissadat, Naomi Sato and Zhongxi Wu. Iman Habibi’s Shāhīn-nāmeh explores 14th-century Judeo-Persian poetry, sung in a traditional Persian style, to expose the close affinities between Persians and Jews dating back centuries. Birds Calling… from the Canada in You, Rita Ueda’s double concerto, embraces birdsong and landscape to reflect on Canada’s shifting multiculturalism. Concluding the program is Canadian-Israeli composer Aharon Harlap’s Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord, five psalms for soprano and orchestra following an emotional journey from despair to hope.

A free live stream is also available on the world’s leading classical music channel, Medici TV (medici.tv/en); check back on the event site for updated streaming details.
