Opus 7 presents a powerful concert for the Lenten season with music that expresses mercy and hope. Contemplate the solemnity of the season in Seattle's most iconic sacred space with lush romantic works by Mendelssohn, Rheinberger, Georg Schumann, Pizzetti, Szymanowski, and Villette. Hear the crystalline, plaintive melodies of Henry Purcell along with American composers William Albright, Gwyneth Walker, and Seattle's own Peter Hallock. The central work of this concert is the Agnus Dei from Krzysztof Penderecki's A Polish Requiem, written in 1981 and dedicated to Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński of Poland, who fought to defend the Catholic faith and liberate his country from communist rule. Guest artist Joseph Adam, positive organ & piano.
