Midtown Concerts: Medieval Voices – Music & Poetry of the 14th & 15th Centuries
Free
- Sarah Pillow, soprano
- Christopher Preston Thompson, voice & Medieval harp
- John Mark Rozendaal, vielle
The late medieval/early Renaissance period was one of the most turbulent and secular of the Middle Ages, yet artistry was in full force. The new musical style of Ars Nova emerged in France, with the polyphonic art song becoming the most important new musical genre of its time. The program will demonstrate this luxurious music in solos, duets, and trios.
Sarah Pillow, Christopher Preston Thompson, and John Mark Rozendaal have been performing together and within various other early music ensembles for the past several years. Sarah and Christopher performed together in The Play of Daniel, produced both at The Cloisters and Trinity Wall Street Church. John Mark Rozendaal is in demand as both a performer and workshop instructor of early music groups in the United States.
