Big Mouth Society presents "The Fruits of Our Labor," a concert of exceptional musical works by living Chinese-American composers who have moved and shaped the artistic landscape of our time. This presentation carries special meaning in Oregon, a state with a complicated and fraught history with Chinese immigrants.
A celebratory lion dance performance by Portland Lee's Association will open the show. Audiences will be treated to music by Pulitzer Prize winners Zhou Long and Du Yun, Academy and Grammy Award-winner Tan Dun, Guggenheim Fellow Chen Yi, famed political music composer Melissa Dunphy, genre-bending genius Huang Ruo, celebrated movie- and video game composer Christopher Tin, and Big Mouth's Artistic Director Emily Lau, an award-winning immigrant composer whose works are described by critics as "ambitious," "magical," and "immersive."
Come join us in celebrating the legacy of this diverse creativity, savor the moving poetry and sonorous dance of voices and instruments, and welcome summer with this peace offering to the earth that we inhabit together.
Big Mouth Society works to ensure open access to the arts and supports equitable treatment of artists. We invite you to choose a price for reserved seats based on our sliding scale, and kindly suggest contributing the equivalent of an hourly wage per ticket purchased. For community members with SNAP cards, $5 Arts for All tickets are available in person at the Box Office in advance and on the day of the show.
