Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel — Hiob
Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel — Lobgesang
The University of Maryland Summer Chorus is a campus and community chorus available to anyone who wishes to sing. This year, UMD Summer Chorus will tackle Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, a choral masterwork that has provided comfort and solace to many since its creation. The program will also feature Fanny Hensel's contrasting cantatas: Hiob explores human suffering as a test of faith, and Lobgesang is a joyful celebration of birth.
About UMD Summer Chorus
UMD Summer Chorus is offered to anyone in high school or above who likes to sing—with no audition required! Attendees include potential and current School of Music students, school alumni and members of the community.
For three weeks in June and/or July, UMD Summer Chorus rehearses and performs a major choral work with a professional orchestra and soloists. Led by one or more of the talented graduate students in the choral conducting program, past performances have included Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Harmoniemesse, Duruflé's Requiem, and Orff's Carmina Burana.
