Duke Ellington — Les Trois Rois noirs ("The Three Black Kings")
Ludwig van Beethoven — Overture to König Stephan ("King Stephen"), Op. 117
Ludwig van Beethoven — Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73 "Emperor"
Composed while the Napoleonic Wars raged outside his door, Beethoven's heroic piano concerto receives a powerhouse performance from the world-renowned Yefim Bronfman, who brings "fire and poetry" (Seattle Post-Intelligencer) to each epic moment. And Duke Ellington connects past and present in the jazzy dreamscapes of Three Black Kings, his soulful tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.
Runs Jan. 11-13.
