Max Bruch — Scottish Fantasy in E-flat major, Op. 46
Carl Nielsen — Symphony No. 2, Op. 16, FS 29 "The Four Temperaments"
Inspired by a simple chorale attributed to Haydn, Brahms breaks the bounds of his musical imagination with variations that span an ocean of undulating moods. Plus, Oregon Symphony Concertmaster Sarah Kwak captures the high spirits of Highland fiddling in Bruch's Scottish Fantasy, and music meets psychology in Nielsen's Second Symphony, the Danish composer's exploration of human emotions and personalities.
