ASO: Roderick Cox Conducts Barber & Rachmaninoff
$24-$120
- Roderick Cox, conductor
John Adams — Doctor Atomic Symphony
Sergei Rachmaninoff — Symphonic Dances, Op. 45
Georgia native Roderick Cox returns to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra after wowing critics as a last-minute replacement in 2023. As a "remarkably dynamic and daring presence onstage," Maestro Cox delivered a "season high" (ArtsATL). This time, he digs into the rich sounds of the ASO string section for Barber's soul-stirring Adagio. He follows with music from John Adams' white-knuckle opera Doctor Atomic, which tells the haunting story of J. Robert Oppenheimer's nuclear testing in New Mexico. The concert concludes with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra going full throttle in Rachmaninoff's seductive orchestral romp Symphonic Dances.
Performances on Oct. 24 & 26.
