This quartet of dances demonstrates a wide variety of repertory. Making its debut with the Company is a work from choreographer Lar Lubovitch, set to Brahms piano compositions, commissioned by New York City Center and created in 2021 on two of NYCB's principal dancers. Representing tradition are works from the founding choreographers: Balanchine's evocative Divertimento from 'Le Baiser de la Fée,' which never fails to wrap audiences in its air of mystery, while Robbins' The Four Seasons moves through the cycles of the title, illuminating each with contrasting classical dances. The program is completed by Christopher Wheeldon's seductive This Bitter Earth, a pas de deux set to a remixed recording of the title song by Dinah Washington.
Performances on Sept. 19, 21, & 22.
