Composer and conductor John Adams leads a program that honors modern American land- and cityscapes, from his own jazz-inflected take on film noir's gritty sound world, through Gabriella Smith's tribute to the Northern California coastline, to Copland's evocative depiction of a deserted cityscape at night.

Cellist Gabriel Cabezas is a true 21st-century musician. A prolific and sought-after soloist and collaborator, he is as comfortable interpreting new works as he is performing the pillar scores of the cello repertoire. He has appeared with America's finest symphony orchestras and has premiered dozens of new works by some of the most brilliant composers of his time.

About Christopher Martin, trumpet
Christopher Martin is one of the leading classical trumpet voices on the world stage. He joined the New York Philharmonic as Principal Trumpet, The Paula Levin Chair, in September 2016. He served as principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) for 11 seasons, and enjoyed a distinctive career of more than 20 years in some of America's finest orchestras, including as principal trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and associate principal trumpet of The Philadelphia Orchestra. He made his New York Philharmonic solo debut in October 2016, performing Ligeti's The Mysteries of the Macabre, led by then Music Director Alan Gilbert.
