Pianist Yunchan Lim, the youngest-ever winner of the Van Cliburn Competition, plays Chopin's Second Concerto. Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 shows the composer’s gift for melody, from its brooding introduction to impassioned heights. In his NY Phil debut, Kazuki Yamada also conducts the U.S. premiere of Dai Fujikura's Entwine, a musical metaphor for vital human connection.

About Yunchan Lim, piano
Since becoming the youngest person to ever win Gold at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition
—in 2022, when he was 18 years old—Yunchan Lim has ascended to international stardom. His audacious performance of Liszt's Transcendental Etudes and appearance with Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 delivered the defining moment of competition. The following year Lim made successful orchestral debuts with the New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as the Chicago, Lucerne, KBS, and Tokyo symphony orchestras, among others, and recital debuts at London's Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Tokyo's Suntory Hall, and the Seoul Arts Center.
About Kazuki Yamada, conductor
Kazuki Yamada is chief conductor and artistic advisor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO), a role he commenced in the spring of 2023. Yamada also serves as artistic and music director of l’Orchestre philharmonique de Monte-Carlo (OPMC).
