Sotto Voce: Donizetti's 'Lucia di Lammermoor'

Sotto Voce presents Donizetti's masterwork of Italian opera Lucia di Lammermoor, featuring the athletic vocalism of local and national talent in an immersive and imaginative staging.

Set in 17th-century Scotland, Lucia di Lammermoor tells a Romeo and Juliet-style tale of warring families and star crossed lovers. The drama culminates in the famous "mad scene"—quoted in such popular culture references as the movie The Fifth Element—and features some of opera's most intense and expressive vocal acrobatics. In Sotto Voce's production, there will be something for both opera enthusiasts and opera novices alike, with staging that brings the athleticism of our highly trained vocalists to the fore, and an original English script performed by a charismatic "emcee" who will playfully help guide listeners through this sordid Italian tale.
