South Korean cellist Hayoung Choi, born in Bielefeld (Germany) in 1998, is the first-prize winner of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition for Cello, Krzysztof Penderecki International Cello Competition, and Johannes Brahms International Competition. She has captivated audiences worldwide with her bold and expressive playing, and has performed alongside luminaries such as András Schiff, Gidon Kremer, and Mitsuko Uchida. At the Phillips, she performs a daring program for solo cello, including sonatas by George Crumb and Zoltán Kodály alongside J.S. Bach's Cello Suite no. 3.
