Celebrating the fall harvest, Kevin Devine, hurdy-gurdy, and Aisslinn Nosky, violin, join Repast for music by the three brothers: Nicolas, Pierre, and Esprit Phillippe Chedeville. The brothers wrote music for the amusement of French aristocracy, finding rustic life to be the height of fashion a generation before Marie-Antoinette was playing peasant at Le Hameau de la Reine. In 1737, Nicolas (in a secret agreement with his cousin, the printer Jean-Noël Marchand) published Il pastor fido, Op. 13, a collection of sonatas for musette or hurdy-gurdy under Antonio Vivaldi's name. Two years later, Nicolas published Le printems, ou Les saisons amusantes, Op. 8, arranging chamber versions of Vivaldi's Four Seasons for musette along with two newly composed concertos, La Moisson, honoring the harvest, and Les Plaisirs de la St. Martin, celebrating Saint Martin's Day, the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter revels.

2 performances:
- Saturday, September 14, 2pm at McKinney Chapel at First Unitarian Brooklyn
- Sunday, September 15, 3pm at Manhattan Country School

About Repast Baroque

"[A] graceful, energetic ensemble" (The New York Times), Repast Baroque is committed to sharing the spirit of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century chamber music with audiences in New York and beyond. Like a well-curated tasting menu, Repast’s performances offer a feast for the senses, treating listeners to the rich and eclectic flavors of Baroque music. The ensemble's unusual instrumentation of violin, bassoon, cello, and harpsichord lends itself to imaginative programming and interpretations, while also providing opportunities to collaborate with a variety of compelling guest artists. Known for its creative concerts, Repast seeks to explore new contexts for Baroque music, telling stories through various themes and art forms. Performances often incorporate multimedia elements, from silent film to visual art, which reimagine new ways for audiences to experience the music of the past through the lens of history.

Founded in 2004 by violinist Amelia Roosevelt, Repast has performed as part of Miller Theatre's "Bach and the Baroque" series, Bargemusic, the Miami Bach Society, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Peak Performances, and at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. The group produced a concert series at Baruch Performing Arts Center during its first 12 years, and in 2015 added a concert venue in Brooklyn Heights. Their CD recordings, 'Repast' and 'Bach's Goldberg Variations' (featuring their own chamber arrangement of the iconic work) have received acclaim and are aired frequently on radio stations nationally. Now under the artistic direction of Sarah Stone and Gabe Shuford, Repast Baroque presents concerts on the Upper West Side and in Brooklyn.

He has been invited to play solo recitals on several concert series, including Gotham Early Music Scene and Harpsichord Heaven at the Barn at Flintwoods.

About Sarah Abigael Stone, baroque cello

A curiosity in the cultural background behind the music she plays led Sarah Stone to Baroque cello and viola da gamba. "The show is not over... Questlove keeps spinning into the early morning. Sir Patrick Stewart has been reading a Shakespeare sonnet everyday. Sarah Stone, who plays cello and viola da gamba, has stuck to her "Bach Everyday" performances...Since March 19, she's done a Bach Chorale each day." (Geoff Edgers, The Washington Post, June 10, 2020). At the start of the pandemic Sarah created Everyday Bach, recording multi-instrumental Bach for consecutive 375 days. Sarah plays with Repast Baroque, NYBI, Washington National Cathedral, Seraphic Fire, The Thirteen, Trinity Baroque Orchestra,The Sebastians, and Baroque Music Montana. Sarah holds a Masters in Historical Performance from the Juilliard School, a Masters from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelors of Music from Rice University.
