Join us as we say “Farewell” to the Auburn Performing Arts Center until October, 2015. A snuff of a candle ends our 2013/14 season as well as our time at the Auburn Performing Arts Center in anticipation of its renovation. Conductor Kershaw pays tribute to both, with Haydn’s Symphony No. 45 “The Farewell”. Engaged to work for Prince Nicolas Esterhazy, Haydn and the other 25 players commissioned by Esterhazy were forced to stay at his estate for a long period of time. Anxious to return to their homes, the finale to Haydn’s Farewell Symphony sent a message to the Prince. Throughout the final movement, various musicians got up, snuffed out their candles, took their music, and exited the room. Apparently, the Prince got the point and ordered everyone’s departure the next day. A farewell to the PAC until October 2015, however, is not a farewell to our loyal audiences. Join us next year at the intimate and acoustically rich Theatre at Auburn Mountainview located on Lea Hill.

Also on the program is Max Bruch’s beautiful Kol Nidrei, featuring ASO’s talented principal cello, Brian Wharton.
