Berlioz, Debussy and Bartok had in common an unshakable defiance of the musical establishment. Each of them created a musical language that was unmistakable and which forever altered the course of Western music. Whether it was embraced or rejected, there was no escaping that their music was like no other and revolutionized the symphony orchestra as Beethoven had left it. All three were absolute masters at orchestration. With them, the orchestra produced unheard-of sonorities and colors. Their blend of instruments created a sonic tapestry that would ultimately be mirrored in the paintings of Turner, Monet and Picasso (the three painters that I naturally associate with that music.) LUCO is very proud to present once again our own Principal Clarinetist, Steven Noffsinger, as soloist. Steven has even commissioned a new superb instrument to coincide with that performance so brace yourselves for a magnificent sound!
