Join the Everett Philharmonic on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 7 PM for the exciting conclusion to our fourth concert season. Listening to our listeners' requests, we are delighted to present a program specially selected by our audience.
We are honored to bring a varied and most interesting mix of musical flavors to our stage for our fourth concert season finale.
First on the program will be the exciting "Carnival Overture" by Antonin Dvorak. In Dvorak's own program notes he states, "A wanderer reaches the city at nightfall, where a carnival of pleasure reigns supreme. On every side is heard the clangor of instruments, mingled with shouts of joy and the unrestrained hilarity of people giving vent to their feelings in the songs and dance tunes."
Then the exciting Juliet Stratton takes to the stage in the performance of the beautiful "Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra" by Camille Saint-Saens. This piece is of the nature of a small four-movement concerto, yet the four distinct sections are performed without interruption.
To complete our program (and leave you breathless) we will present the famed Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade". Designed from the Arabian Nights tale of Sultana Scheherazade, the music suggests the stories she told the Sultan over several nights to keep him interested enough (over 1,000 nights) to postpone her execution. Very wily, this Sultana, and very sensual and exciting this music. And therefore, a successful conclusion to this evening's performance.
