Details
Experience bold repertoire with roots that run deep in American musical history! In the first concert of the season, be enchanted by world renowned master Steinway pianist Mark Salman in a dazzling performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.
Also included in this season premier concert is Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, which was written in response to the US entry into World War II and was inspired in part by a famous 1942 speech where Vice President Henry A. Wallace proclaimed the dawning of the "Century of the Common Man." Elmer Bernstein's Theme from the Magnificent Seven is one of the most enduring soundtrack recordings of the 20th century. The piece, from 1960, has vivid, dramatically contrasting themes with a triumphal conclusion.
Also look forward to the compelling Grand Canyon Suite by composer Ferde Grofé and a rousing rendition of Custer’s The American Frontier.
