Founded in 1978, San Francisco-based Chanticleer has taken the world by storm and have even been dubbed “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker. This evening, they’ll explore the mysteries at the heart of the Christian story, with music from different cultures of the Western world. They’ll showcase works by a host of early composers — Giovanni Gabrieli, Josquin Des Prez, Orlando di Lasso, Giovanni Palestrina, William Byrd and Tomas Luis de Victoria — as well as later works by Hugo Wolf, Francis Poulenc and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Noted for their original interpretations of gospel, jazz, Renaissance pieces and new music, Chanticleer’s 12-member, all-male ensemble has garnered two Grammy Awards and toured internationally.

Preconcert lecture at 7:00pm.

Presented by the Early Music Guild.
