Duruflé – Requiem, Op. 9
Holst – The Planets, Op. 32

If the entire history of the world were compressed into a 24-hour period, humans would have existed for only one second. Meditate on the concept of eternity through Duruflé’s heart-stoppingly beautiful Requiem from 1947, dedicated to the memory of the composer’s father. Turn from the frenzy of everyday life to contemplate the end of existence – and what follows it – through this rich and powerful work. Then reflect on the incomprehensible enormity of the universe – and our tiny place in it – as you experience Holst’s ever-popular Planets.

There will be an intermission between Requiem and The Planets.
