Leonard Bernstein's MASS

Seattle Girls’ Choir Allegra and the 50-voice Seattle First Baptist Sanctuary Choir and chamber orchestra present the concert version of Leonard Bernstein’s MASS. Originally composed in 1971, MASS combined classical, Broadway and rock elements in a 2½ hour exploration of faith in a time of questioning.

Because of the enormous performing forces required, this masterpiece has been seldom heard in Seattle. The concert version we present distills MASS to 35 minutes and preserves the essential movements of the liturgy and favorite solo pieces. The concert opens with a set sung by Allegra and the audience joins the musicians in singing songs of hope.
