Poetic dissonance in a state of prolonged stillness.

About the Long Piece Fest
Inverted Space, the University of Washington’s contemporary music ensemble, presents a “Long Piece Fest” at the Good Shepherd Center, as part of the contemporary and experimental music-focused Wayward Series. A set of three concerts spanning April, May and June, the “Long Piece Fest” features a single piece from the modern music repertoire that is...well, really long.

About the artists
Luke Fitzpatrick is a violinist, composer and improvisor. In 2014 he performed Luigi Nono's La Lontananza Nostalgica Utopica Futura with both André Richard and Marcin Pączkowski. Additionally, he has performed with Deltron 3030, The Penderecki String Quartet, inauthentica, The Parnassus Project, The New Century Players, and as a guest artist with The Argento Chamber Ensemble for the West Coast premiere of Helmut Lachenmann's Mouvement (-- vor der Erstarrung). His world premiere recording of Vera Ivanova's Quiet Light for solo violin was released on Ablaze Records in 2011. Luke holds degrees from California Institute of the Arts and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is currently a DMA student at the University of Washington where he studies with Ron Patterson.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, pianist Brooks Tran began playing the piano at the age of seven. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance at the University of Washington under the tutelage of Patricia Michaelian. Tran has performed throughout the United States as well as on the air. He won the annual UW Concerto Competition and was a finalist at the Ladies Musical Club competition, and was featured as a soloist with the University Symphony, UW Wind Ensemble, and the Seattle Youth Symphony. Tran also recently performed Chopin’s 24 Préludes live with innovative dance group Compagnie Marie Chouinard of Montreal, and selections of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier with the Ballet du Grand Théåtre de Genève. He is heavily involved in contemporary music and is a core member of Inverted Space, the UW Modern Ensemble. Tran is also the co-founder and associate artistic director of Parnassus Project (www.parnassusproject.com), a chamber collective presenting a new, dynamic approach to the classical concert experience. He recently performed at the Atlantic Music Festival and Seattle Piano Institute and has worked with Richard Goode, Bruce Brubaker, Gabriel Chodos, Robin McCabe, Christopher O’Riley, and André Richard.
