Saint Mark's Cathedral, Seattle, WA, United States

The music of Peter R. Hallock (1924–2014) provides a sonic feast as Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble, the Compline Choir and Saint Mark’s Cathedral Boys & Girls Choir are joined by guest soloists, handbells, string orchestra, organ, brass sextet and percussion, to delight the ears and stir our senses. Hallock was a mystic, countertenor, composer, organist and liturgist forever linked with Saint Mark’s Cathedral, the place where this tribute concert takes place.

The program includes music spanning almost seven decades of creative output, including some rarely heard gems: A Brevity for Baritone, “Rachel’s Lament” from Days of Herod, and three songs for children’s voices. Other highlights include Hosanna to the Son of David, an early unaccompanied work not heard in Seattle since 1953, and Dream of the Rood, the only work in which Hallock set text of the Creed to music. At Peter’s request, the first half of the concert closes with To the Supreme Being, performed in a version for string orchestra, oboe and men’s choir. The concert closes with the premiere performance of Victimae Paschali laudes (Setting III) – the last work Peter composed.

Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
