Friday, April 17, 2015 @ 7:30pm – 9:00pm (PDT)
Seattle Venue TBA, Seattle, WA, United States

Free concert by the Seattle Flute Society Flute Choir and The Emerald Wind Quintet.

The Emerald Wind Quintet will perform two arrangements by local Seattle musician Stafford Miller, which include Handel's Water Music Suite (three movements) and Debussy's The Maid with the Flaxen Hair. Stafford has superbly transcribed these famous works for wind quintet, and we are honored to perform them.

We will also perform four movements from Benjamin Gessel's Colorful and Reflective Melodies Suite, which we premiered in September 2013. This will be the second performance of this charming and heart-felt work, written by our very own horn player.

Finally, we will perform a new work, Neverland, the Story of Peter Pan in Poetry and Music for wind quintet and narrator, by Sy Brandon. This delightful piece was written in 2014 through a Commissioning Consortium, which our group took part in along with 11 other wind quintets from across the country. Our performance will be the premiere in the Pacific Northwest, and we welcome Evan Woltz as our narrator, son of our bassoonist, Paul!

This concert will also feature the Seattle Flute Society's Flute Choir spring concert:

Jonathan Cohen – L’Esprit des Petits Enfants (Spirit of the Little Children)
Melvin Lauf, Jr. – The Secluded Stream
Gershwin (arr. Melanie Thorne) – Summertime
Smetana (arr. Shaul Ben-Meir) – From Bohemia’s Meadows and Forests
Haydn (arr. Evan Tonsing) – Finale from Symphony No. 45 “Farewell”
