About the artist
Gabriele Gaetano Taranto graduated with highest honors from the Institute of Musical Studies “Vincenzo Bellini" in Catania (Sicily-Italy). After studying at the Piano Academy of Imola "Incontri col Maestro" with M°. Leonid Margarius, he continued his studies with M° Federico Gianello, Corrado Ratto and Giuliano Mazzoccante.

Gabriele has already received acclaim from audiences and critics. He gave several concerts in many concert halls and in many theaters playing in several Italian and European cities such as Salzburg, in the prestigious “Wiener Saal” of Mozarteum, in the famous “Auditorium Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli” of Bolzano, in Aachen, Koln, Malta and Lisbon. In 2009 and in 2013 he recorded his recital at the RAI Auditorium in Palermo for the Italian State Television. In February 2012 he performed in Ukraine, as soloist with the Orchestra of Luhansk with great appreciation from the audience. He recently had the privilege of performing in a hearing held by the great pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy. He received national and international awards, among which it is worthwhile to mention the first prize at the 3rd European Competition “Città di Campobello di Licata”; the first prize at the International Competition “Gianluca Campochiaro in Pedara"; the first prize at the International Competition “G. De Vincenzi” (Genova); the first prize at the second edition of the National Competition “Musica al Cenacolo” winning also the chance to make a recording; the first prize at the National Music Competition “Città di Barcellona” in 2003 and 2005; he qualified at third place in the section “ J.Brahms’ Interpretation “ in 2005 and second in 2007.

He received an award for the best performance of a piece of Claude Debussy at the 26th Valsesia Piano Competition.
He also resulted finalist and semifinalist in many International Competitions among which “Città di Osimo”, “Madesimo Piano Competition” , “Premio Venezia”, “Città di Cantù”, “Busoni competition”.

In duet with his violinist brother he won the first prize at the competition “Città di Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto” (Sicily) in the section “J. Brahms Interpretation”.

He attended, as a student, many International Masterclasses for musical interpretation held by famous pianists and teachers such as Pietro De Maria, Andrea Lucchesini, Epifanio Comis, Violetta Egorova, Sergio Perticaroli, Vincenzo Balzani, Boris Petrushansky, Reid Smith, Shuku Iwasaki, Andreas Frolich, Ilja Scheps, Yuri Didenko, Siegfried Mauser, Leonel Morales and Aquiles Delle Vigne. He was reported by A. Delle Vigne as the best pupil for 4 years from 2005 to 2008, and he won scholarship and concerts.

In 2008 Gabriele graduated in Physics at Catania University, and in 2012 he specialized with highest honors in nuclear physics. He is now attending the third year of the PhD course.
