Renowned flutist Sooyun Kim makes her debut at the Olympic Music Festival with a program of rare chamber music masterworks. Carl Czerny, Beethoven’s most famous pupil, became a formidable composer who produced over a thousand pieces throughout his lifetime. His Fantasia Concertante for Flute, Cello, and Piano is a work that merges early operatic lyricism with Mendelssohnian virtuosity. Zoltan Kodaly’s Duo for Violin and Cello is a rhapsodic work inspired by Hungarian folk music. Telemann, a contemporary of Bach, wrote incredible fantasies for solo flute that require a master’s command to perform. OMF artistic director Julio Elizalde performs Mozart’s famed Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, arranged for the unconventional combination of flute, violin, cello, and piano by Mozart’s own pupil, Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
