Shostakovich – String Quartet No. 14
Mozart – Oboe Quartet
Beethoven – String Quartet Op. 59, No. 3

Club Shostakovich returns to Vashon Island this summer to celebrate the works of Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.

We'll be playing the lovely Shostakovich 14th Quartet, as well as Mozart's divine oboe quartet, with one of the Northwest's most lyrically gifted oboists, Dan Williams.

Finishing the program is the monumental Beethoven Quartet, Op. 59, No. 3 which ends in an irresistible tour de force of a fugue in the heroic key of C Major, like his 5th Symphony final movement. Played by the wonderful Girsky Quartet, it promises to send you off into a perfect August evening full of joy and radiance. And you'll be able to make it to the 9:50 ferry afterwards!

Club Shostakovich is the roaming Seattle chamber music series that has brought the Shostakovich string quartets to Seattle venues over the last three years. From the Royal Room to Kenyon Hall, from Temple Beth Am to the Q Cafe, these fifteen quartets, the composer’s intimate masterworks, have been presented in chronological order along with food, poetry and general audience/performer camaraderie.
