Seattle Symphony bassist Ted Botsford performs works by Patrick Neher, Olivier Messiaen, Lowell Liebermann, and others, joined by violist Marissa Winship.

About the artist
Ted Botsford enjoys a busy and varied career as a performer and teacher of the double bass. He currently plays in the Seattle Symphony and is a sought after clinician and soloist around the country. A dedicated proponent of new music, Ted also serves as Principal Bass of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.

Prior to his start in Seattle, Ted was a member of the Oregon Symphony where he was Acting and Assistant Principal Bass. In 2014, he gave the Oregon and Portland premier of John Harbison’s Concerto for Bass Viol with the Portland Youth Philharmonic, which received numerous accolades. He appears regularly with Portland-area groups Third Angle, 45th Parallel, and fEARnoMUSIC.

As an educator, Ted has served on the faculty of the George Vance Memorial Bass Workshop, the Kansas City Bass Workshop and the Twin Cities Bass Workshop. In 2014, he was the guest artist at the Suzuki Association of the Americas Conference. He has also appeared as a guest clinician at Ithaca College and the University of Oregon.

Ted began his studies of the double bass with the renowned pedagogue George Vance and later went on to study with Paul Ellison and François Rabbath. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Rice University and has also received the Diplôme and Certificat d’Enseignement from the Institut International François Rabbath. Other major teachers include Rick Barber, Tim Pitts, and David Moore.
