Featuring a small ensemble of Pacific MusicWorks, this program traces the “Stylus Fantasticus” from its origins in seventeenth century Italy with Farina and Fontana, and its development in Austria by Mealy, Albertini, Schmelzer, and Biber. The free, improvised style of the violin is grounded by a colorful continuo team of harp, lute, baroque guitar, and organ, which employ a wide range of colors, textures, and sounds to accompany the violin. This small ensemble brings this incredible repertoire to life on historical instruments.
