When exploring the song output of the who's-who of 20th century English song it is almost impossible to avoid the name Thomas Hardy. His poetry inspired composers like John Ireland, Benjamin Britten, and Gerald Finzi to name a few. This recital features two song cycles by Gerald Finzi, Till Earth Outwears, and A Young Man's Exhortation both of which are settings of Hardy's poetry.
