Highlighting the title of this concert, Brass Band Northwest will perform two radically different works, both inspired by the amazing aurora borealis (northern lights), from composers Lee Morris and Ola Gjeilo. Morris’ work bristles with electric energy, whereas Gjeilo stands in awe of this remarkable phenomenon.

Throughout our 2016-17 season, BBNW will feature works by modern English composer Edward Gregson. Gregson has written many important works for both wind band and brass band, as well as concertos featuring brass instrumental soloists. In this season-opening concert, we will perform Gregson’s Connotations, a mature and virtuosic work.

In addition, local composers Christophe Chagnard and Jeffrey W. Taylor will be featured with Opre' Roma and The Age of Man respectively.

In a special appearance, Zan Kistner, winner of the 2016 Kennelly Keys solo competition at the annual Northwest Brass Festival, will perform as euphonium soloist in Bert Appermont’s The Green Hill, a work both lovely and vital with a Celtic spice to the rhythm.
