Four composers evoke lands and eras other than their own in this colorful and alluring program. Johann Strauss, Jr. demonstrates his flair for writing music in something other than 3/4 time in his Egyptian March. Camille Saint-Saëns' gifts for beguiling melodies and rich orchestration are amply displayed in the Bacchanale from his opera Samson and Delilah. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's most popular work, the grand symphonic poem Scheherazade, caps this musical voyage to distant realms and times. Flutist Sandra Saathoff is the stylish soloist in Franz Doppler's Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise.
