Rimsky-Korsakov – Scheherazade, Op. 35
Guest conductor Aaron Breid leads Orchestra Seattle in Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, one of the most popular pieces in the orchestral repertoire, “a kaleidoscope of fairy-tale images.” Born in Montana and raised in Turkey, composer Kamran Ince responded to a commission from the vocal ensemble Chanticleer with an a cappella setting of a text by the 13th Century sufi poet Jelaleddin Rumi in which he “tried to convey the strong yearning for god with searching lines, at times incomplete, breathless.”
Prior to the concert at 6:30pm, there will be a free “Behind the Music” discussion.
