Flotow – Martha, or the Market at Richmond
World famous, local opera singers! PSCO takes pride in presenting high quality, affordable productions of the world's greatest operas. With our innovative concert opera format, PSCO's performances allow audience members to see, hear, and feel the music up close in intimate venues.
This fall, our title role is Jennifer Bromagen, whose recent engagements include Queen of the Night (cover) for Seattle Opera. Jennifer is joined by another PSCO veteran, Ryan Bede, who joined her on the Seattle opera stage as the Second Priest. And our newest discovery is tenor Jesse Nordstrom, who wowed audiences at Pacific Northwest Opera (formerly Skagit Opera) as Don Octavio.
Lady Harriet has grown tired of life at court and is desperate to escape the affections of her cousin Lord Tristan. Accompanied by her maid Nancy, she joins a group of girls on their way to Richmond Fair. Disguised as "Martha" and "Julia," Harriet and Nancy are hired by the farmers Plunkett and Lyonel. The ensuing romantic comedy is full of elegant melodies and beautiful ensembles including the beloved tenor aria "Ach! so fromm, ach! so traut (M’apparì tutt’amor)."
Our principal cast will be supported by a full chorus, a chamber ensemble of eleven and a custom arrangement by conductor Bernard Kwiram. Artistic director: Regina Thomas.
Sung in German with English supertitles.
