Motets based on chant. Chant has been the cornerstone of Western music since the 9th century. It has provided an evolutionary foundation from the Gregorian era to the Renaissance, Baroque, and even contemporary music. While some composers like Renaissance composer Thomas Tallis's Loquebantur variis linguis use chant literally to construct their music, others have used chant as an inspiration, like in American composer Eric Whitacre's Sainte-Chapelle.
Estimated performance time: 90 minutes (includes intermission)
